Rhinophyma Bellevue & Seattle

Rhinophyma is a condition of the skin that causes excessive tissue growth leading to odd shapes on the face, especially on the nose. It can be caused by the malfunction of a protein in the vessel wall of the arteries.

When the vessel becomes unstable, it can lead to a leakage of contents in the blood and that can result in an inflammation of the surrounding tissue around the arteries. The inflammation causes scar tissue to form and eventually obstruct the pilosebaceous units or the units that make up our hair follicles.

One of the glands that release sebum or oily substance (that moisturizes the skin into the hair follicle) can get plugged. The result is a proliferation of the glands and the formation of these growths on the nose and skin of the face.

Rhinophyma Treatment Options

Dermaplaning is one option that can improve rhinophyma. This special technique shaves off tumorous growths with a blade allowing the nose to heal.

It can take a week for the skin to grow over. Some of the pinkness can remain for a few weeks. Healing from this procedure is very similar to that of the laser resurfacing. You can also use cO2 laser resurfacing and dermabrasion to combat rhinophyma. Intense pulse light has been known to help with the prevention and treatment of the redness.

Benefits of Rhinophyma

Dr. Young’s theory on facial beauty explains how people analyze beauty in the face and its power in society. The idea that beauty is only skin deep is an ideal but not a reality. Our existence as a human race is predicated on the desire for survival which pushes us to appreciate and desire beauty.

Beauty is a representation of order in our lives. Hence, the order and structures on the face reminds us of order in our lives. We are thus attracted to this order that we labeled as beauty. A condition like rhinophyma gives a person an unfair advantage. Not having that perfect beauty works against people suffering from rhinophyma. The growth on their face gives an odd shape and disorder appearance. It conjures up negative feelings for the person with rhinophyma. The procedure of rhinophyma helps rebalance not only a person’s physical appearance but also their self-esteem.

Procedure of Rhinophyma

This procedure is very minimally invasive and reduces the effects of this rhinophyma. It typically takes about 30 minutes to do under IV sedation or local anesthesia. This short procedure will change a person’s life.

“I just wanted to leave a note and say that my procedure with Dr. Young approximately 6 years ago took years off my face. He did an excellent job and I am still enjoying the results. It was very much worth the downtime. I look exactly like myself, just younger. Thanks, again!”

— C.J., 40’s caucasian female from North Lynnwood, WA

“He gave me my confidence back that I thought I would never get back. I can now look in the mirror and actually love what I see and not have to deal with pitted scars in my face. If you or anyone you know who thinks they have to just live with these scars, don't!”

— Ator A., 20’s Eastern Indian from Ontario, Canada

“My procedure went great and I left the office with no concerns and all of my questions answered. I have never felt so good about myself and my appearance. I have you to thank for that Dr. Young. My new nose is perfect, I cannot thank you enough for this new look on life.”
