JOWL TREATMENT WITH A FACE LIFT | OTHER OPTIONS Bellevue & Seattle

"After the facelift, I feel more confident. Younger guys are looking at me more. I’m more excited about the way I look and it has made me feel a lot better. A lot of people don’t know what I had done. They just tell me I look great."— —S.K.

Defining Jowls: Jowls are something that are a popular term used by patients and they often come in to find out how to treat them. They are made of tissue that used to be more located in the face above the jaw line. With the loss of volume in the upper lateral cheek area, jaw line area, chin area and the rest of the cheek, the part of the face that will become the jowls begin to descend over the jaw line area. It is made up of skin, muscle, fat and other facial tissue. The reason that they are located in that area is because there are some strong ligaments around the mouth area where the marionette lines and nasolabial folds are located. These ligaments that extend from the muscles to the skin keep the skin around the mouth tight unlike the jowl area. So the jowls extend below but the tissue around the mouth doesn’t.

How do you Treat Jowls: Face lifts are one way, and the most popular way, to treat the jowls. Face lifts entail pulling on the muscles to lift the jowls so that they don’t descend over the jawline area. The incision is made by the ear and the skin is elevated. The muscles are then pulled up towards and above the ear to lift the jowls. You can also decrease the size of the jowls by liposuctioning or liposculpting the jowls while doing a face lift or by doing this just by itself. Using Fillers is another way of treating the jowls and this is done by filling in the jawline behind the jowls and in front of the jowls. As we alluded to before the loss of volume in the chin, cheek and the rest of the face contribute to the jowls. So when you fill in these areas, the jowls tend to be lifted or disappear. The secret is knowing where to put the fillers. Fat injections are another form of a filler that last years (sometimes 8-12 years) as opposed to Dermal Filler | Injectibles that can last only months. Again the question is how you do this and where to place the filler. The YoungVitalizer is another way of shaping the face to decrease the appearance of the jowls in a natural way without facial incisions. The YoungVitalizer is the Incision Less Face Lift Alternative.

How does Removing the Jowls or Decreasing their Appearance Help with your Facial Aesthetics: The jowls are obviously something that doesn’t enhance your appearance. Their position detracts from the oval, heart shaped appearance that you had when you were young. The descent of the jowls makes your face more square shaped. This is also a less feminine trait. The female face is less square and more heart shaped than the male face. So the jowls make the face more square and, hence, more masculine and manly. The facelift improves this by pulling the jowls up and also by shaping the face so that it is more heart shaped.

“I just wanted to leave a note and say that my procedure with Dr. Young approximately 6 years ago took years off my face. He did an excellent job and I am still enjoying the results. It was very much worth the downtime. I look exactly like myself, just younger. Thanks, again!”

— C.J., 40’s caucasian female from North Lynnwood, WA

“He gave me my confidence back that I thought I would never get back. I can now look in the mirror and actually love what I see and not have to deal with pitted scars in my face. If you or anyone you know who thinks they have to just live with these scars, don't!”

— Ator A., 20’s Eastern Indian from Ontario, Canada

“My procedure went great and I left the office with no concerns and all of my questions answered. I have never felt so good about myself and my appearance. I have you to thank for that Dr. Young. My new nose is perfect, I cannot thank you enough for this new look on life.”
